The Joseph Project is a faith‑based, jobs initiative connecting people with real employment opportunities. It’s hands‑on work that has changed thousands of lives across Milwaukee’s inner city and beyond.
The Joseph Project, founded in 2015, by Senator Ron Johnson and Pastor Jerome Smith Sr., of the Greater Praise Church of God in Christ, is one of the few programs that actually closes the gap between quality jobs and inner city workers.
While traveling across Wisconsin, Senator Johnson kept hearing the same thing from manufacturers: “We need workers.” But when Johnson visited Milwaukee’s inner city, he heard the opposite: “We need jobs.”
Milwaukee’s inner city has talent, drive, and people ready to work, but not always the access to jobs.
The Joseph Project tackles access head on with 24/7 shuttle vans that take workers to and from job sites for their first 90 days. This simple support has helped countless participants stay employed, stay consistent, and stay on track.
The Joseph Project also supports people facing mental health challenges, addiction, and past criminal records, seeing them as “modern‑day Josephs,” capable individuals who can rebuild their lives with the right opportunity.
As participant Michael Bradley said, “when I put on my uniform for work, my son thinks I transform into a Superhero.”
That’s what opportunity does. It restores dignity. It strengthens families. It changes how children see their parents, and how parents see themselves. The program has expanded into the Milwaukee County House of Correction, preparing individuals in work release for stable employment and helping reduce recidivism through practical, hands‑on training.
Some Black inner city residents say Republicans aren’t present in Milwaukee’s inner city, but the Joseph Project is a visible, consistent, boots‑on‑the‑ground presence.
The project is proof that conservative leadership can and does invest in inner city Milwaukee families.
The Joseph Project is more than a jobs initiative. It’s a lifeline. It’s a second chance. It’s a reminder that Milwaukee’s inner city is full of people who are ready to work, ready to grow, and ready to succeed, if someone is willing to meet them halfway.
Thank you Senator Ron Johnson, for creating a project that uplifts inner city families, strengthens communities, and gives Milwaukee residents the opportunity they deserve.
