A 17-year-old high school senior and multi-sport athlete has died from injuries sustained during a football game, school officials confirmed.
Adam Massman, a senior at Alma Center Lincoln High School and the Hornets’ starting quarterback, was injured during Thursday night’s season-opening contest against Turtle Lake on Thursday. Emergency medical technicians were on site and provided immediate care before he was transported to a hospital. The Alma Center-Humbird-Merrillan School District learned Saturday afternoon that Massman had died from the injury.
“Adam was active in our Lincoln community, participating in multiple sports, clubs, and activities making friends everywhere he went,” District Superintendent Drew Semingson said in an email to families and staff. “This loss touches our Lincoln family in many ways. Adam’s family has deep connections throughout our schools.”
Officials have not released details about the nature of the injury, citing respect for the family’s wishes.
Massman’s family has extensive ties to the district. His mother, Brianne Massman, works as an elementary school counselor. He has a sibling who attends junior high, an aunt and uncle who teach at the elementary school, and another uncle who serves on the school board. The family is also involved in a local cattle business, and Massman was a member of the Lincoln ACHM FFA chapter, which issued a statement mourning the loss of one of its members.
Lincoln defeated Turtle Lake 42-18 in the 8-player football game. Massman played quarterback and cornerback. In the 2025 season he threw for 858 yards and 10 touchdowns in six games while rushing for 280 yards and three touchdowns. He also competed in varsity baseball and basketball and was named to the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association’s 2025 Boys Basketball Academic All-State list.
