The week after Labor Day is traditionally the time that voters start paying attention to politics, and politicians respond by desperately tacking to the center in the hopes that no one noticed how extreme they were during the primary.
Congressional candidate Rebecca Cooke is a prime example of this phenomenon. Her closing ad in the run-up up to her primary election win over Emily Berge focused on Bernie Sanders’ endorsement and rejecting money from leftist boogeyman AIPAC.
Now, however, her latest ad in her general election tilt with Republican Rep. Derrick Van Orden is literally entitled “Moderate.”
Seriously? A moderate? Endorsed by Bernie Sanders? Cooke clearly understands her district…and the fact that she has to lie to it in order to get elected. She is about as far from a moderate as, well, Bernie Sanders.
After all, she spent years working as a political consultant for Kirk Bangstand–perhaps the single most unhinged, vile leftist in Wisconsin– and endorsed Islamist socialist Zohran Mamdani for mayor of New York City.
She also openly supports banning guns:
During a 2023 call with the far-left Citizen Action of Wisconsin, she demanded an end to “brute police enforcing” (whatever that means).
“When it comes to policing, I’m a proponent of allocating greater funds to root causes of the issue, rather than brute police enforcing,” she said.
Cooke is no moderate and never has been; she is just hoping that now that voters are finally paying attention, she’ll be able to fool them.
