Wisconsin Democrats are already on board with protecting illegal foreign nationals, but Wisconsin legislature is the only thing standing in their way.
The brutal murder of 18-year-old Loyola University Chicago freshman Sheridan Gorman should hit every American family like a gut punch. Gorman was walking with friends near campus when Jose Medina-Medina, a 25-year-old illegal foreign national from Venezuelan, approached wearing a mask, pulled a gun, and shot her in the back as she tried to flee. She died at the scene in a horrific scene that no teenager should ever witness let alone be the victim of. The criminal foreign national who entered the United States illegally in 2023, was released by Border Patrol and then arrested for shoplifting in Chicago only to be released again. Chicago’s sanctuary policies kept him here instead of turning him over to ICE.
This wasn’t random “senseless violence,” as Chicago’s mayor called it. It was the predictable result of shielding criminal illegal aliens from federal law. And it is exactly what Wisconsin can expect if Democrats take full control of the state Legislature and Governor’s mansion. Right now, Republican majorities in the Assembly and Senate have blocked the Democratic lawmakers from their own worst intentions. Those guardrails are the only thing preventing Wisconsin from sliding into the same scenario we see in Chicago.
Look at Milwaukee, where the Common Council has been proposing their “ICE Out Milwaukee” package. The measures would bar local police from sharing immigration information, prohibit ICE from staging operations on city property, and hamstring cooperation with federal enforcement. The package was so extreme that even City Attorney Evan Goyke had to hit the brakes. Just days ago he pulled key provisions, telling the Council he needed more time to assess their “legality and enforceability.” The city’s own top lawyer couldn’t sign off on it. Dane County is already living the sanctuary experiment. Sheriff Kalvin Barrett has already stopped notifying ICE when illegal foreign nationals are in custody, even forfeiting the federal reimbursement.
If Democrats capture the Legislature, these local experiments become statewide policy overnight. Expect laws banning ICE detainers or shielding even repeat criminal offenders. The same playbook that kept Medina-Medina on the streets could be imposed on every corner of Wisconsin. As tragic as Sheridan’s murder is, the human toll can already be seen in Wisconsin; we don’t need to deal in hypotheticals.
In Dane County, illegal foreign national Noelia Martinez-Avila, here illegally from Honduras, was charged in a drunken-driving crash that killed two Minnesota teenagers. These aren’t abstract statistics. These are kids and families paying the price for Democrat policies with their lives. What do Democratic lawmakers have to say in response? Nothing.
Sanctuary policies don’t make us more compassionate for the plight of the third-world; they make us less safe. They tell illegal foreign nationals that Wisconsin is a haven where local politicians will fight for them over their fellow countrymen. Wisconsin deserves leaders who put American citizens first, not illegal foreign nationals.
