Horn is Facing 40 Years in Prison for Sexual Assault and Child Enticement
Eau Claire police have charged Nadia M. Horn, a 22-year-old special education teacher at North High School, with five felony counts after allegations of sexual intercourse with two 16-year-old male students, according to a criminal complaint filed Monday in Eau Claire County Court.
Horn faces one count of second-degree sexual assault of a child under 16, two counts of child enticement, and two counts of sexual assault of a child by a person working or volunteering with children. If convicted on all counts, she faces up to 40 years in prison and $100,000 in fines.
The charges are based on incidents described in the police complaint, which was previously referenced in earlier reports. Horn, who co-teaches World Studies at North High School, allegedly exchanged “really revealing” Snapchat photos with one student after purchasing him a cell phone. She admitted to the police having sexual intercourse with the first student three times at her Eau Claire apartment and with the second student twice. The complaint states that one encounter involved both students in the same room.
In a police interview after her arrest, Horn told investigators she became close to the first student because “he needed support.” She said, “I made a mistake,” regarding their encounters. About the second student, she stated, “It just felt mutual” and that it “didn’t feel like she was taking advantage.”
The complaint alleges that in March, Horn brought the two students and a third 16-year-old male student to her apartment after they requested a ride. She provided them with wine, according to her admission and surveillance video, which shows the group entering her apartment on March 15 and leaving the next morning.
Horn was arrested on March 25 and made her initial court appearance on Monday. The Eau Claire County Judge set her bond at $15,000 cash, which she posted before being released. Her next court hearing is scheduled for May 20.
The Eau Claire Area School District confirmed in a letter to families that Horn has been suspended without pay pending the outcome of the legal proceedings.
The case first came to light through a complaint against the teacher that revealed new accusations, as previously reported. Police state the investigation is ongoing.
