Marquette University Law School will release its latest poll on the Wisconsin governor’s race at noon Wednesday, offering a fresh look at voter preferences in a Democratic primary upended by Lt. Gov. Sara Rodriguez’s sudden withdrawal and Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley’s quick re-entry.
The survey, conducted before Rodriguez dropped out over a campaign finance controversy and shortly after Crowley suspended then revived his bid, is expected to show a fluid field with significant undecided voters less than three weeks before the Aug. 11 primary. Earlier Marquette polling in the race consistently found high undecided rates, with State Rep. Francesca Hong and former Lt. Gov. Mandela Barnes vying for the lead in the low double digits.
Poll director Charles Franklin has indicated the results will include second-choice preferences that could help redistribute Rodriguez supporters. However, because Crowley was removed from the questionnaire after his initial suspension, the poll offers limited direct insight into his potential rebound, even with fresh endorsements from Gov. Tony Evers and major labor groups.
The winner of next month’s primary will challenge Republican Rep. Tom Tiffany in what is shaping up to be one of the most hotly contested races in the country this November.
