Illegal immigration is not a weather event. It is a self-inflicted wound sold as compassion. It undercuts American workers, strains hospitals and classrooms, and puts Wisconsin families in the path of people who were never supposed to be here. David Crowley just proved there is no such thing as a moderate Democrat on this issue.
Milwaukee County Executive Crowley, now the Democratic nominee for governor, directed county lobbyists to back 2025 Assembly Bill 475. The bill, authored by Democratic Socialist Rep. Ryan Clancy and co-sponsored by Crowley’s primary rival Francesca Hong, would have forced the state to award grants for immigration legal aid “without regard to the client’s immigration status.” It created a continuing $300,000 pot of tax dollars for groups like Voces de la Frontera whose main purpose is to advocate for illegal aliens. Milwaukee County registered in support and spent more than $210,000 on lobbying in the 2025-26 session.
This is the same Crowley who helped muscle through a county sales tax hike so residents and visitors would cover the hole Democrats have been making for years. Then he finds the staff and the lobbyists to ask Madison for a legal slush fund for people who broke federal law to get here. Democrats, help me understand the math. You cannot raise the sales tax on a machinist in West Allis and tell him the next priority is a lawyer for an illegal foreign national.
County lobbyists also backed Assembly Bill 57, which would have barred cops from helping detain people on immigration status at so-called sensitive locations. Other Crowley-backed measures would have stopped ICE agents from covering their faces, banned local jails from holding people for immigration violations, and killed 287(g) agreements.
He now says he is not only an ally, but he is an “accomplice.” He will be with them “no matter what.” Is he an accomplice when the illegal alien is perpetrator of a crime against a home-grown Wisconsinite? Is he an accomplice when Noelia Martinez-Avila, here illegally from Honduras, was charged in a crash that killed two Minnesota teenagers.
Still don’t believe me? In a July WisPolitics interview, Crowley was asked if sheriffs should honor immigration detainers. His answer was “Absolutely not.” Crowley would slam that door on ICE at the county jail and, if he gets the mansion, try to slam it statewide. Criminal illegal aliens get to walk.
Then he went somewhere Hong would go. Crowley said Wisconsin should fight to protect illegal alien criminals from deportation “with the same type of spirit” used to fight against the Fugitive Slave Act. He analogized criminals who broke into this country to those who fought against slavery. It is insulting to actual American history.
David Crowley has shown his true color when it comes to illegal immigration. Every Democrat, including Crowley, believe the same line on the issue. Hong, Roys, Crowley. All the same. Licenses for illegal foreign nationals. ICE as the villain. Enforcement as the sin. Crowley is not a break from Hong. He is for illegals, not you. Wisconsin should return the favor in November.
