Wisconsin Assembly Minority Leader Greta Neubauer came out against the compromise agreement Governor Evers reached with Republican legislative leaders on Tuesday, throwing its future in the Legislature into doubt.
“The spending proposal in front of the legislature could put the state in a very difficult financial position in future years,” Neubauer posted to her official Facebook page. The Trump administration is already causing chaos that is causing prices to go up, and we donβt know what heβll do next. With working families already struggling to make ends meet, we cannot afford to overspend now and be forced to make cuts to essential services like schools and healthcare in the future.”

On Monday, Senate Minority Leader Diane Hesselbein rejected the deal as well, saying in a statement that it was all but dead with her caucus.
“From my perspective, there is no deal: Three men who will not be in elected office next year have come up with this proposal which Senate Dems will be reviewing,” she said. “Senate Democrats will have more to say once we have seen the full details of this expensive proposal and have gotten some clarifying information on revenue projections in this time of significant economic uncertainty and upheaval.”
Nearly every Democratic gubernatorial candidate has also ripped the agreement, which Evers announced Monday. It would spend more than $1.8 billion of the state’s projected $2.2 billion structural surplus on property tax relief, tax rebate checks for taxpayers, and state reimbursement to public schools for special education funding.
