Protect Our Wisconsin, which is backed by the Democratic Governors Association (DGA), posted the 30-second ad on August 13, 2026. The DGA’s official account shared it with the description “NEW AD from DGA-backed group, Protect Our Wisconsin: ‘Tom Tiffany’s real agenda is too extreme.”
It is the same recycled playbook Democrats have used against every Republican who refuses to apologize for supporting President Trump or standing for life, border security and fiscal restraint. Calling a Freedom Caucus member and Trump ally a “legislative terrorist” is a retread character assassination designed to frighten suburban voters who already rejected the democratic socialist alternative in their own primary.
Tiffany’s actual record is far more straightforward. He has consistently voted to protect Social Security for current beneficiaries while supporting reforms that address the program’s long-term solvency, the same conversation every honest fiscal conservative has been having for years. The ad’s maximalist framing is designed to erase those nuances.
While the ad closely ties Rep. Tiffany’s reputation to President Trump and “MAGA extremism,” Tiffany’s campaign consistently emphasizes rural Wisconsin roots, property tax relief, cutting red tape, and protecting farmland and homes from outside investors. The Tiffany campaign has produced several multi-million-dollar statewide buys on broadcast, streaming, and digital platforms.
What the ad carefully avoids is any serious engagement with the issues Wisconsin voters care about most: property taxes, energy costs, school performance and crime. Tiffany has made those his focus. Crowley and the establishment Democratic apparatus would rather change the subject to culture-war caricatures because Crowley’s record as Milwaukee County Executive is not something to be proud of.
The DGA has been well-funded for the cycle; in February 2026 it reported raising $112 million, nearly 50% more than in the comparable prior cycle.
Outside groups on both sides have already invested heavily, with Tiffany’s campaign and allies accounting for a large share of primary-cycle ad spending tracked by AdImpact. The DGA and affiliated efforts are expected to continue as the general election campaign intensifies.
