A Sun Prairie Area School District employee resigned in January amid a Title IX investigation; the latest shakeup in a district mired in a sexual misconduct scandal.
A Sun Prairie Area School District employee resigned in January after the district launched a Title IX investigation into multiple violations of the employee handbook, officials confirmed Tuesday.
The unnamed educator β referred to only as a former staff member β was notified of the probe and the start of termination proceedings. Days later, the individual submitted a resignation, prompting the district to drop the federal sex-discrimination inquiry, according to a statement to News 3 Now.
Title IX prohibits sex-based discrimination, including sexual misconduct, in federally funded schools. District leaders have released no further details on the specific allegations, citing the lack of criminal charges.
The resignation marks the latest personnel shake-up in a district plagued by repeated failures to protect students. In the past seven months, five high-ranking officials have resigned, retired or announced exits amid scrutiny over how administrators handled reports of sexual misconduct by a former dean of students.
Experts have sharply criticized Sun Prairieβs leadership for botching investigations, sidelining the Title IX coordinator and prioritizing employee protection over student safety.
βSun Prairie is a prime example of a public school district that does not understand its obligation under federal law, and as a result, botched its investigations and failed to protect its students,β said Adele Kimmel, a Title IX attorney with Public Justice.
The district has faced ongoing calls for accountability as parents demand transparency and reform in how schools address misconduct.
