U.S. Rep. Tom Tiffany, the Republican Party of Wisconsin’s endorsed candidate for governor, rallied supporters Monday evening at O’Donoghue’s Irish Pub in Elm Grove alongside two former GOP governors, Scott Walker and Tommy Thompson. The event, coming just days after Tiffany’s formal endorsement at the state GOP convention, underscored a message of party unity heading into the November general election.
“It’s time to turn this state around with another T.T.,” a fired-up Thompson told the crowd.
The trio emphasized the importance of a unified GOP if Tiffany is to win the governorship. Unity was the central theme of this weekend’s Republican Party of Wisconsin State Convention, and Thompson’s strong support for Tiffany proved it wasn’t just a talking point.
Thompson had been rumored to be interested in a run for governor of his own, but ultimately turned down a primary challenge to Tiffany and instead endorsed him.
“We are just two kids from Elroy and Elmwood who believe in Wisconsin’s potential,” Tiffany after Thompson endorsed him, highlighting their shared small-town upbringing and values.
Tiffany launched a campaign blitz after the convention ended Sunday, starting his day Monday in Green Bay before heading to the Milwaukee suburbs Monday evening.
