Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs was released from Brown County Jail on Wednesday after an arrest the previous day on five charges related to a domestic disturbance, authorities said.
The Brown County District Attorney’s office said it is not yet prepared to file formal charges and is continuing to review the case. Jacobs, 28, had been booked Tuesday following an investigation into a complaint from Saturday morning.
“After reviewing the available evidence in this case, the Brown County District Attorney’s Office is not yet ready to make a charging decision,” District Attorney David L. Lasee said in a news release. “Our office has requested additional investigation, as there is reason to believe that additional evidence may exist that would impact whether criminal charges are appropriate, and what charges would be issued. Mr. Jacobs will be released from custody at this time, and a final charging decision will be made by our office at a later date.”
Hobart-Lawrence police responded to a disturbance call involving Jacobs around 8:37 a.m. on May 23, according to a department news release. Officers arrested him Tuesday and booked him into the Brown County Jail on one felony count of strangulation and suffocation and four misdemeanor counts: battery (domestic abuse), criminal damage to property (domestic abuse), disorderly conduct (domestic abuse) and intimidation of a victim.
Jacobs’ attorneys issued a statement denying the allegations after news of his arrest spread Tuesday evening.
“Josh vehemently denies the allegations, and this matter is in the early stages of investigation with important evidence that has not yet been made public,” attorneys David Chesnoff, Richard Schonfeld and Clarence Duchac said. “We ask for fairness and restraint while the judicial process takes its course.”
The Packers organization said it is aware of the situation but declined further comment as the legal process continues.
“We are aware of the matter involving Josh Jacobs. As it is an ongoing legal situation, we will withhold further comment,” a team spokesman said.
Jacobs signed a four-year, $48 million contract with the Packers as a free agent in 2025 after five seasons with the Las Vegas Raiders, where he was a first-round draft pick out of Alabama in 2019. He rushed for 1,211 yards in 15 games last season.
