Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul received the endorsement of Fair Wisconsin PAC on June 25, 2026, for his re-election bid.
Fair Wisconsin PAC, the political arm of the state’s leading LGBTQ+ advocacy organization, announced endorsements for several Democratic candidates including Kaul. The group praised candidates who would defend LGBTQ+ rights against federal policies.
Fair Wisconsin has actively campaigned to expand access to gender-affirming surgeries for minors. The organization led efforts attempting to force UW Health and Children’s Wisconsin to resume providing puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones to transgender youth after the hospitals paused these treatments amid legal and regulatory concerns. Executive Director Abigail Swetz has publicly claimed that such care is “medically-accurate, age-appropriate” and “life-affirming” for minors.
The group has opposed Republican legislation that would prohibit puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, and surgeries for individuals under 18. Fair Wisconsin has framed these restrictions as discriminatory and worked with coalitions to pressure hospitals and lawmakers to maintain or expand access to these interventions for children.
Fair Wisconsin’s advocacy includes support for a broader spectrum of medical transitions that can involve irreversible steps, including hormone treatments that often precede surgical interventions later in life. The organization has described opposition to these practices as based on “misinformation,” even as a growing detransition movement exists for those who felt forced or pressured into surgeries.
Kaul’s acceptance of the endorsement aligns him with an organization that prioritizes access to trans surgeries for minors over concerns raised by critics about long-term effects, desistance rates, and the lack of strong evidence for benefits in many cases.
