Wisconsin Watch, just announced this week as the Milwaukee Journal Sentine’s new fact-checking service, produced a fact check on the gubernatorial election that suggests it truly believes Journal Sentinel readers are morons.
Wisconsin Watch, the left-wing quasi-news organization that the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel announced this week as its new fact-checking partner, produced a check on a claim that suggests it does not believe Journal Sentinel readers have even the slightest clue about what is going on in state politics.
“Did Francesca Hong win the Democratic primary for Wisconsin governor?” Wisconsin Watch checker Hope Karnopp earnestly asked, responding to a tweet that went viral in Democrat circles claiming Hong won the primary after a Marquette University Law School poll revealed she was narrowly leading the field.
“No,” Karnopp answered. “Francesca Hong, a candidate for governor in Wisconsin, has not won the Democratic primary – because the election hasn’t happened yet.”
The election, as most everyone knows (except, it would seem, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel readers), is not until August. Still, Wisconsin Watch and the Journal Sentinel felt the need to clarify this to their less-savvy readers.
“A viral post on X claims Hong ‘just won’ the Democratic primary for governor,” Karnopp wrote. “But Wisconsin’s primary to narrow down candidates for governor and other partisan offices isn’t until Aug. 11, 2026. The general election is Nov. 3.”
The Journal Sentinel announced Thursday that Wisconsin Watch would replace Politifact as the newspaper’s fact-checking partner.
