Former President Barack Obama has endorsed liberal Supreme Court candidate Chris Taylor, a fomer Planned Parenthood activist and Wisconsin Assembly member.
Former President Barack Obama on Wednesday threw his weight behind liberal Appeals Court Judge Chris Taylor in Wisconsin’s April 7 Supreme Court election, calling her “the only candidate” with a “proven record” of protecting rights and delivering equal justice, which in progressive speak means she’ll be a rubber stamp for every progressive policy, legislate from the bench and use every opportunity she can to enact lawfare against conservatives.
Obama’s endorsement is just the latest episode in the left’s ongoing campaign to turn supposedly nonpartisan races into ideological battlegrounds. No surprise here: Obama and his old pal Eric Holder have made a hobby out of undermining the courts and stacking them with progressive activists like Taylor. Taylor, a former Democratic state legislator and Planned Parenthood’s top lobbyist in Wisconsin, is the perfect foot soldier for Holder’s scheme to gerrymander the state in favor of Democrats with his National Democratic Redistricting Committee.
A Taylor victory would expand the court’s current 4-3 liberal majority to a commanding 5-2. This would lock in liberal control through at least 2030, making it far harder for conservatives to regain influence.
Taylor’s resume includes years as Planned Parenthood’s chief lobbyist in Wisconsin, championing abortion on demand and pushing left-wing legislation. She brags that this qualifies her for the bench. Even more brazen, she’s made it clear she won’t recuse herself from cases involving her former employer, including the current challenge to Wisconsin’s abortion laws.
Many note the potential conflict with judicial ethics rules on impartiality and recusal. In addition, Taylor herself has repeatedly violated a judicial ethics rule she introduced as a member of the Assembly. Opponents, including the Republican Party of Wisconsin and Lazar’s campaign, rightly call her a “radical activist.” They argue she failed to advance her agenda through elected office and now seeks to impose it from the bench.
Obama’s intervention drew swift pushback on social media. Conservative voices highlighted the unseemliness of a former president actively campaigning in a local judicial contest, noting that judges are not there to protect rights invented by the progressive left or to impose their ideological agenda from the bench.
Contrast Obama’s relentless activism with the restraint of past presidents. Bush, Clinton, even Carter—whatever their politics—understood that dignity meant stepping back from the partisan fray. Obama, on the other hand, has turned the post-presidency into a full-time gig for the Democratic machine, endorsing left-wing candidates in every corner of the country. So much for presidential dignity, Obama has turned his time in office into a permanent political operation.
