Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs was arrested Tuesday and booked into the Brown County Jail on five domestic abuse-related charges stemming from a disturbance three days earlier.
Hobart-Lawrence Police Department officers responded to a disturbance complaint at 8:37 a.m. May 23, according to a press release from Chief Michael Renkas. Following an investigation, Jacobs was arrested Tuesday morning.
He faces possible charges of battery-domestic abuse, criminal damage of property-domestic abuse, disorderly conduct-domestic abuse, strangulation and suffocation, and intimidation of a victim. He remained in custody Tuesday evening.
“This remains an active and ongoing investigation,” the Hobart-Lawrence Police Department said in a press release. “No further information will be released at this time.”
“Josh vehemently denies the allegations, and this matter is in the early stages of investigation with important evidence that has not yet been made public,” his attorneys David Chesnoff, Richard Schonfeld and Clarence Duchac said in a statement of their own. “We ask for fairness and restraint while the judicial process takes its course.”
Jacobs, entering his third season with the Packers, signed with the team as a free agent before the 2024 season. He led the NFL in rushing with the Las Vegas Raiders in 2022. In his first year in Green Bay, he rushed for 1,329 yards, fifth-most in team history. He had 929 rushing yards in 15 games last season while dealing with injuries. Jacobs served as a team captain in 2025.
“We are aware of the matter involving Josh Jacobs,” a spokesman for the Packers said. “As it is an ongoing legal situation, we will withhold further comment.”
The NFL’s personal conduct policy states that a first-time violation involving domestic violence carries a baseline suspension of six games without pay, subject to possible adjustments based on aggravating or mitigating factors. The league requires all players to refrain from conduct detrimental to the integrity of and public confidence in the NFL.
