Vice President JD Vance told a crowd in Plover not to “send us a bunch of crazy Democrats in November” as he campaigned for Republican Congressman Derrick Van Orden following the State of the Union Address.
Vice President JD Vance on Thursday criticized congressional Democrats as “crazy” during a visit to a manufacturing facility in central Wisconsin, urging voters not to return them to power in the November midterm elections.
Vance spoke at Pointe Precision in Plover, in Wisconsin’s 3rd Congressional District, two days after President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address. The event drew an estimated crowd of about 300 people and highlighted the administration’s economic policies, including tax cuts on tips, overtime and Social Security benefits, expanded child tax credits and what Vance described as efforts to reduce government fraud and prioritize American citizens.
Referring to Democrats’ reactions during the president’s speech, Vance said, “As the president of the United States said, very well, you watch their reaction to some of what he was saying, and all I could think was, ‘These people are kind of crazy, these congressional Democrats.'”
In closing remarks, Vance told the audience, “We would really appreciate you not sending a bunch of crazy Democrats in November, so please donβt do that.” He also questioned Democrats’ refusal to stand during portions of the address, including when Trump emphasized protecting American citizens over illegal immigrants.
The visit supported Republican U.S. Rep. Derrick Van Orden, who represents the district and faces a competitive reelection bid. Democrats have targeted him as a top target in their bid to regain control of the House of Representatives for the first time since the 2022 midterms.
