Multiple fights broke out late Sunday on the final night of the Wisconsin State Fair, prompting authorities to clear Spin City, the fair’s carnival and ride area, and leading to the early closure of that section of the grounds.
Witnesses reported several brawls near the rides. Dispatch audio captured officers requesting backup, with one saying, “They need some help at Spin City. Send anybody extra you have.”
By about 10 p.m., multiple police officers, including some on horseback, were positioned at the north entrance near Spin City. At least one officer was punched in the face during the disturbances, according to an officer on the scene.
Milwaukee police confirmed they received calls about the fights. Video showed groups of authorities rushing toward the area.
The fair, which ran Aug. 6-16 at State Fair Park, had been scheduled to close at 10 p.m. Sunday. Spin City rides and games normally operate until closing or earlier for safety reasons.
Authorities continued investigating the incidents Monday. No arrests or injury totals were immediately released. Separate reports of possible shots fired on nearby Interstate 94 around the same time were under investigation by Milwaukee County sheriff’s deputies, though officials have not linked that incident to the fairground disturbances.
