In what feels like satire worthy of the Babylon Bee, Democrat State Senator and fledgling gubernatorial candidate Kelda Roys has introduced the unfathomably cringey “NAW DAWG Act.”
Democrat State Sen. Kelda Roys, who is running for governor in 2026, introduced a bill Thursday to ban law enforcement from using autonomous devices equipped with weapons.
The proposed legislation, titled the “NAW DAWG Act” — No Autonomous Weapons Deployed Against We, the Governed Act — seeks to prohibit such technology by law enforcement agencies. In a co-sponsorship memorandum circulated to legislators, Roys described the measure as a response to “creepy Black Mirror episode” scenarios involving AI systems.
The memo highlights the federal government’s recent decision to cancel an AI contract with Anthropic after the company refused to remove safeguards against fully autonomous weapons and mass surveillance.
Roys noted that the memorandum was written exclusively by ChatGPT, stating, “All errors are the robot’s.”
No Wisconsin law enforcement agencies currently deploy armed autonomous devices and none have indicated any plans to.
In a related story that likely sheds light on why she introduced a bill that seems designed solely to garner her attention, Roys polled at 1% in last month’s Marquette University Law School gubernatorial poll. She is tied for eighth with Brett Hulsey, who has not held elected office or been in the public spotlight in more than a decade.
