Republican State Reps Rob Brooks and Jerry O’Connor have both announced that they will not seek-relection to the Assembly later this year.
Republican state Reps. Rob Brooks and Jerry O’Connor announced Thursday they will not seek re-election to the Wisconsin Assembly.
Brooks, who represents the 59th Assembly District, and O’Connor, who represents the 60th Assembly District, made the announcement today. Their current terms end in January 2027.
“After years of battling in the trenches to defend Wisconsin values — lower taxes, school choice and the right to keep and bear arms — it’s time to pass the torch to the next generation of conservatives,” Brooks said.
Brooks was first elected in 2014 and expressed his gratitude to his constitutents in both the 59th and 60th Assembly Districts for their support. He endorsed Republican Bradley Peterson to succeed him in the 59th District.
“Public service has been an honor, but after fighting to rein in government spending and protect our communities from crime and woke policies, I believe it’s time for new voices to carry forward the fight for freedom and prosperity,” said O’Connor. “Wisconsin Republicans have made real progress; my hope is that steadfast conservatives will build on that foundation.”
At least nine Republicans in the Wisconsin Legislature have announced retirements this year ahead of the 2026 legislative elections. They include Assembly Speaker Robin Vos and Senate Majority Leader Devin LeMahieu, along with other senators and representatives.
