Milwaukee — A key development came Thursday in the case of 35-year-old David Krause, who was fatally shot on April 14 (414 Day) in the Walker’s Point neighborhood after asking three teens for a ride during severe storms.
During a continued waiver hearing on July 23, a judge ordered that one of the 16-year-olds charged in the killing be transferred to adult court. The hearing had begun Tuesday and was extended to Thursday.
According to reports, the judge initially indicated it would be in the teen’s best interest to remain in the juvenile system. Members of the Krause family stood and left the courtroom at that point. Moments later, the judge completed the ruling, determining that the public’s interest outweighed other factors and ordering the transfer to adult court.
Investigators have said Krause was shot after getting into a vehicle with the teens; the car was later set on fire. Three juveniles face felony murder charges in the case. Last week, a different 16-year-old was denied waiver to adult court. A third teen’s waiver hearing is scheduled for August 12.
The Krause family has attended numerous hearings and repeatedly called for accountability, with David’s father, Kevin Krause, stating the need for justice and stronger consequences.
This ruling marks a significant step for prosecutors seeking adult-level penalties in the case.
