Gov. Tony Evers raised the Progress Pride Flag over the East Wing of the Wisconsin State Capitol on Monday, the eighth and final time the symbol will fly during his administration as he prepares to leave office at the end of his second term.
Evers issued Executive Order #297 directing the flag, which includes additional stripes representing transgender individuals, people of color in the LGBTQ community and those affected by HIV/AIDS, to fly through sunset on Tuesday, June 30. The order also allows other state buildings and jurisdictions to display the Progress Pride Flag during June.
The Democratic governor proclaimed June 2026 as LGBTQ Pride Month in the state and released a video message marking the occasion. He tied the event to his earlier declaration of 2026 as βthe Year of the Neighbor,β which he described as a time to celebrate community and inclusion.
The practice began in 2019 when Evers first ordered a rainbow Pride Flag flown over the Capitol shortly after taking office. Subsequent years featured the updated Progress version. Evers has used the annual event to highlight his support for LGBTQ policies.
Last September, the Assembly passed a measure that would have barred flags other than those of the United States or Wisconsin or various governmental agencies from flying above public buildings, but the Senate did not advance the measure out of committee.
