Wisconsin Rep. Francesca Hong, a leading Democrat for governor, is being brutally mocked for a tweet celebrating the New York Knicks’ NBA championship. Thousands responses on X, including from Scott Walker, Ben Shapiro, several Barstool Sports writers, and of course tons of actual Knicks fans laughed at her claim that electing a socialist propeled the team to victory and expressed surprise that a gubernatorial candidate from Wisconsin was suddenly a diehard New York fan.
New York City elected a socialist mayor, and the Knicks won their first championship in 53 years,” Hong posted alongside a video of her wildly celebrating the title-clinching win Saturday night. “Imagine what we could do with a socialist governor in Wisconsin?”
Walker, Wisconsin’s former governor, pointed out that all of the Green Bay Packers’ championships occurred during Republican governorships.
Shapiro, meanwhile, pointed out that the Knicks have a total payroll of $207 million–hardly a model of principled Marxist economics.
“So much socialisming,” he quipped.
Barstool Sports writer Jack McGuire pointed out the utter absurdity of all of it: “A Wisconsin politician cheering for a New York team??? Equating a capitalist team winning thanks to a socialist mayor???”
Thousands of other replies to Hong’s tweet expressed similar dismay that she would be both rooting for New York as a wannabe governor of Wisconsin and that she credited socialism (however jokingly) with delivering a championship in professional sports; perhaps the ultimate capitalist enterprise.
After all, there weren’t a whole lot of Soviet apparatchiks making $53 million per season like Comrade KAT did this year.
