Former President Barack Obama endorsed Democrat David Crowley for governor in a brief video posted to social media Thursday morning.
“I’ve known a lot of leaders, but I haven’t known many like David Crowley,” Obama said in the ad. “David’s life story is about overcoming adversity, and his life’s work is about bringing people together.”
Obama noted that Crowley, like him, began as a community organizer and is raising three daughters with his wife, Ericka, in public schools. He praised Crowley’s record as leader of Wisconsin’s largest county, saying Crowley created jobs and balanced the budget, and said Crowley would work as governor to lower costs at the pump, at the doctor’s office and at the end of the month.
“There is nobody better to lead Wisconsin forward, so vote David Crowley for governor,” Obama said.
Crowley, the Democratic nominee, shared the video on social media and wrote that he was “deeply honored” to have Obama’s support in the race to be Wisconsin’s next governor. He faces Republican U.S. Rep. Tom Tiffany in the November 3 election.
The Obama video is among roughly two dozen ads the former president recorded last week for Democratic candidates for governor and Senate.
