Hardworking families in southeast Wisconsin are paying too much for health care and prescription drugs. Congressman Bryan Steil is focused on bringing down those costs and bringing more resources home to our hospitals and communities.
$1 Billion More for Wisconsin Medicaid
Thanks to Steil’s work in Washington, Wisconsin is now receiving roughly $1 billion more a year in federal Medicaid funding — a 10% increase compared to previous years. That’s real money coming back to our state to support hospitals and care for seniors, kids, pregnant moms, and people with disabilities.
Steil worked with Governor Tony Evers and state leaders to get this done. By acting quickly, Wisconsin locked in the higher funding before new federal rules took effect. The result is more support for hospitals across the state, including those serving families in Racine, Kenosha, Walworth, Janesville, and the rest of the First District.
Lowering Prescription Drug Costs
Steil is also working to make prescription drugs more affordable. He co-led bipartisan legislation that would require drug companies to clearly show the price of their medications in TV ads. When people can actually see the real price, it puts pressure on companies to bring costs down.
He’s pushing for more price transparency so patients aren’t left in the dark when they’re trying to afford the medicine their doctor prescribed.
Protecting the Program for Those Who Need It
Steil supports common sense steps to cut waste and fraud in Medicaid so the money goes to the people it’s meant for — Wisconsinites only. That helps keep the program strong for Wisconsin families who rely on it.
These are practical steps that put more resources into our local hospitals and give families more information about the prices they’re paying. Steil says the work isn’t finished, but these results show progress on the health care issues that matter most to people here at home.
