Republican Eric Toney has conceded the Wisconsin attorney general race to Democratic incumbent Josh Kaul. Kaul told supporters in Madison Tuesday night that Toney called to concede.
When Toney conceded, Kaul led 55.1 percent to 44.9 percent, with about 64 percent of the estimated vote counted.
Toney, the Fond du Lac County district attorney, made this his second statewide run against Kaul. He ran on his record as a working prosecutor, putting public safety and support for local law enforcement at the center of his campaign. He conceded quickly, before any network call. Toney took the result the way he ran the race: directly and without excuses.
Kaul now begins a third term. His office has spent much of its energy on lawsuits against the Trump administration. Wisconsin families worried about crime and drugs will be watching whether his next four years look any different.
Republicans had a hard night across Wisconsin. Decision Desk HQ called the governor’s race for Democrat David Crowley at 9:20 PM Central.
